The fans of bestselling ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ book series, the fantasy world of Westeros that was turned into worldwide hit show by HBO ‘Games of Thrones’, might finally get the most awaited novel ‘The Winds of Winter’ in 2021 thanks to Coronavirus lockdown.

The 71-year-old George R. R. Martin has been breaking every deadline for the sixth book in the series since 2014. Hence why, a lot of fans have given up hope by this point.

It was expected that the finished work would be presented this August at New Zealand’s Worldcon 2020.

“But I tell you this—if I don’t have THE WINDS OF WINTER in hand when I arrive in New Zealand for worldcon, you have here my formal written permission to imprison me in a small cabin on White Island, overlooking that lake of sulfuric acid, until I’m done. Just so long as the acrid fumes do not screw up my old DOS word processor, I’ll be fine”, he wrote on his website, Not a Blog in May 2019.

Apperently, the writer has ‘jailed’ himself way earlier this year in a prospect of uncertain future and tough present of the pandemic.

On Wednesday, he tweeted that “the enforced isolation” was helping him to make “steady progress” on the book.

“Yes, I am in an actual cabin in the mountains… if nothing else, the enforced isolation has helped me write.

He also wrote that he cancelled his plans to visit New Zeland: “The last thing I need right now is a long interruption that might cost me all the momentum I have built up,” he wrote. “I can always visit Wellington next year, when I hope that both Covid-19 and THE WINDS OF WINTER will be done.”

However, David Moench, Mr. Martin’s representative at Random House, did not answer questions about the timing of the next book.

“George Martin is not available for an interview, as he is indeed focused on writing THE WINDS OF WINTER,” he said. “Random House will publish that book once it is finished, whenever that may be.”

Martin’s fans divided by their reactions into camps of disbelief and frustration, excitement and plot theorizing.

With ‘The Winds of the Winter’ supposedly coming out in 2021, the world will still have to wait for the end of story in the final book ‘A Dream of Spring’.
